A researcher (Dean In-seop Shin) from HK+ Humanities Institute at Konkuk University landed an international joint contract with renowned mobility institutes in the U.K. in February.

The Mobility Humanities Institute made a contract of a new project ‘The UK and South Korea social science, arts and humanities connections’ held by UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) with Centre for GeoHumanities at Royal Holloway University of London, Centre for Mobilities Research at Lancaster University and Cultural and Historical Geography Research Group at Aberystwyth University.

The joint research starting from February 2022 to July 2023 will proceed under the topic of ‘Connecting Mobilities Research between the UK and South Korea: narrating, mobilizing, experimenting and engaging mobilities for just futures’.

Dean In-seop Shin and Prof. Jin-hyung Lee from Mobilitiy Humanities Institute at Konkuk University, Prof. Peter Adey and Prof. Harriet Hawkins from Centre for GeoHumanities at Royal Holloway University of London, Prof. Lynne Pearce and Prof. Nicola Spurling from Centre for Mobilities Research at Lancaster University, and Prof. Peter Merriman and Dr. Samuel Mutter from Cultural and Historical Geography Research Group at Aberystwyth University.

Through the joint research, the Mobility Humanities Institute and the three mobility research institutes in the U.K. will enhance mutual knowledge sharing and research cooperation systems n the previous academic exchange. It will also strengthen the mobility research among the U.K., South Korea and other Asia researchers including Asia Mobility Humanities Network, which is built by the Mobility Humanities Institute, and suggest solutions for global issues regarding future mobility (climate emergency).

The four institutions including the Mobility Humanities Institute, Royal Holloway University of London, Lancaster University and Aberystwyth University will hold joint academic conferences and workshops and work on scholar exchange as well as joint publication. Based on these achievements, they plan to win international research funds including the EU and conduct joint research activities in the future.

Dean Shin at Mobility Humanities Institute said, “With the three leading institutions in the U.K., we will systematize research methods from a humanistic point of view,” and, “We expect that the Mobility Humanities Institute will be recognized as a world-class research institution through this joint research.”
